SEAI Battery Grant 2026: How Much Is It and Who Qualifies?

SEAI pays a flat €600 grant towards a home battery of 5kWh or larger, with or without solar panels. Applications opened at 5pm on Tuesday 6 October 2026: you apply yourself through SEAI's Solar PV grant portal, and you must have your Grant Offer before installation starts.

The details below come from the SEAI Battery Energy Storage System grant page, checked on 7 October 2026.

How much is the SEAI battery grant?

The grant is a set rate of €600 per home, for a battery of 5kWh or larger. It does not rise with battery size, so a 5kWh and a 10kWh battery get the same €600.

A battery stores electricity to use later, for example solar power from the afternoon used in the evening. SEAI says this improves energy flexibility and helps lower electricity bills.

Do I need solar panels to get the battery grant?

No. You can apply for the €600 battery grant even if you are not installing solar PV. The battery must still be 5kWh or larger and fitted by an SEAI registered Solar PV contractor.

Can I get the battery and solar PV grants together?

Yes. If you are installing solar panels and a battery, you apply for both grants in one application.

Already applied for solar PV? You do not need to change that application. Log into the portal and submit a separate application for the battery, as long as the battery installation has not started. You can also do one now and the other later, provided you meet the criteria when you apply. See the SEAI Solar PV grant page for the solar grant.

Who can apply for the SEAI battery grant?

Any homeowner can apply, including private landlords, owner management companies and approved housing bodies (AHBs). Your home must meet all of these conditions:

  • It has an MPRN (the number on your electricity bill).

  • It was built and occupied before 2025.

  • No battery grant has been paid at this MPRN before.

  • The battery is 5kWh or larger.

  • Installation has not started before you receive your Grant Offer.

  • The installer is an SEAI registered Solar PV contractor.

  • The installation meets SEAI's technical specifications.

How do I apply for the SEAI battery grant?

There are 7 steps, and the order matters: no work can start until step 3.

  1. Find an SEAI registered Solar PV company and get quotes.

  2. Apply to SEAI through the online portal.

  3. Receive your Grant Offer before any works start.

  4. Complete your installation.

  5. Arrange a post-works BER (required if you have solar PV).

  6. Submit evidence of the works to SEAI.

  7. SEAI pays the €600 grant. Your home may be inspected.

Before you apply, read SEAI's Solar PV Scheme Application Guide and the Solar PV Grant Completion Checklist.
