Low-cost loans of up to €75,000 can also be used towards a whole-home upgrade.
How do window & door upgrades work?
If you’re considering upgrading your windows and doors, it’s important to make sure your home meets the basic eligibility criteria for energy‑efficient improvements. To qualify, you must be replacing existing single‑ or double‑glazed windows with modern, high‑performing units designed to reduce heat loss and improve overall comfort.
Any doors being upgraded should be demonstrably inefficient so they can be swapped for new, energy‑rated alternatives. In addition, your home must already have adequate attic and wall insulation in place to ensure that the benefits of new windows and doors aren’t lost through poor overall insulation. This helps guarantee that your upgrade delivers maximum performance, comfort, and long‑term savings.
-
A post‑works BER assessment is required after installing new energy‑efficient windows and doors, and this assessment is fully grant‑aided. For added convenience, homeowners can also opt for a combined pre‑ and post‑works BER service to ensure their upgrade meets all energy‑efficiency and grant requirements
-
All new windows and doors must meet the required U‑value performance standard of 1.4 W/m²K or better. This compliance is verified through the Declaration of Works form, which is signed by both the contractor and the homeowner to confirm that the installed products meet energy‑efficiency requirements.
-
Your home must meet a Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) of 2.3 W/K·m² or better, or have attic and wall insulation rated as ‘Good’ or ‘Very Good.’ You’ll find this information in your post‑works BER Advisory Report, which confirms whether your property meets the energy‑efficiency requirements for window and door upgrades.
If the home previously received SEAI grant funding for attic and wall insulation, then sufficient insulation is in place.
-
Choose a One Stop Shop to manage your entire window and door upgrade from start to finish. Your One Stop Shop will handle the grant application on your behalf and coordinate all aspects of the project. With this option, the grant amount is deducted upfront, reducing the cost you pay directly to the One Stop Shop.
