Mount Lucas Brings NZEB Fundamentals to KORE

We were delighted to welcome the team from Mount Lucas to KORE recently for an engaging and hands-on session in NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) Fundamental Awareness training.

This is the second time Mount Lucas has run their courses with us on site, and for three days we had invaluable up-skilling and education on the general principles and practices of NZEB and retrofit standards for our subcontractors and employees.

Delivered by the National Construction Training Centre at Mount Lucas, this course is designed to introduce the key principles of energy-efficiency in building in line with Part L and Part F of the Irish Building Regulations.

NZEB Training

Joe and Felim from the Mount Lucas team guided our contractors and employees through the foundational concepts of building performance and energy efficiency, helping ensure everyone at KORE continues to lead with knowledge, compliance, and innovation.

Key areas covered:

The NZEB Fundamental Awareness course covered the following areas:

  • NZEB Principles: A breakdown of Part L and Part F regulations, emphasising the importance of compliance in both design and execution.

  • Building Physics: Insight into thermal energy transfer, U-values, ventilation heat losses, and the conditions that lead to condensation and mould.

  • Building Fabric: The role of continuous insulation, minimising thermal bridging, airtightness, and high-performance window and door installations.

  • Building Services: An overview of efficient space heating, domestic hot water systems, ventilation strategies, and smart building technologies.

  • Renewables: Introduction to renewable energy integration including photovoltaic systems and smart metering.

  • User Engagement: The importance of educating building occupants on how to operate and maintain energy-efficient homes post-upgrade.

The mix of classroom and hands on learning really enamoured our participants, especially the airtightness masterclass.

A huge thanks to Mount Lucas

We’d like to thank the team from Mount Lucas for delivering such a valuable and engaging training session. Their in-depth understanding of NZEB standards and practical, hands-on approach made a lasting impact. The session reinforced our shared commitment across both KORE Retrofit and KORE Insulation—to go beyond compliance and deliver solutions that prioritise performance, enhance comfort, and support long-term sustainability in the built environment.

If you would like to bring Mount Lucas to your school or workplace, please contact them, and arrange a site visit, or some training at their premises in Offaly.
