As part of World Green Building Week 2025, KORE Retrofit proudly hosted a site visit and knowledge-sharing event, “From Unfit to EnerPHit: Breathing Fresh Life into Old Buildings.” The event took place on Friday, 12th September, and welcomed homeowners, architects, engineers, and sustainability enthusiasts to see first-hand how a deep Retrofit can transform a home.
A Unique Opportunity to See EnerPHit in Action
Guests were given the chance to step inside a 1920s property that was undergoing a full energy upgrade to meet the rigorous EnerPHit standard. Once rated F on the BER scale, the home is being retrofitted with advanced insulation, airtightness measures, high-performance windows, and a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery all designed to dramatically reduce energy use, improve comfort, and cut carbon emissions.
Led by MD Dr Barry McCarron attendees were guided through each stage of the Retrofit project, explaining the technical details and challenges of upgrading older buildings. The site visit highlighted the importance of a fabric-first approach, showing how deep energy upgrades can deliver long-term benefits for both homeowners and the environment.
Sharing Insights and Stories
The event began with a welcome address and an introduction to the project before moving into a guided site tour. Attendees had the opportunity to see the retrofit measures up close and learn about the practical steps needed to achieve EnerPHit certification.
Supporting World Green Building Week 2025
This event formed part of the Irish Green Building Council’s World Green Building Week programme, which encourages bold action to improve the sustainability of our built environment. By showcasing a real-world example of EnerPHit in progress, KORE Retrofit demonstrated how older, inefficient homes can be given a new lease of life reducing household energy bills, improving health and comfort, and contributing to Ireland’s climate targets.
