Empowering Communities for a Sustainable Future: KORE Retrofit’s Role in the AREC Reno Project
At KORE Retrofit, we’re proud to be part of AREC Reno – Advancing Residential Energy Communities for Sustainable Renovation, a major European initiative that’s transforming how we approach building renovation and energy efficiency.
Driving Change Through Collaboration
AREC Reno brings together universities, housing associations, SMEs, retrofit specialists, and municipalities from across Europe. The goal? To accelerate large-scale, community-driven renovations that make homes warmer, greener, and more affordable to run.
By fostering collaboration between local communities, businesses, and homeowners, the project aims to reduce carbon emissions, lower energy use, and make deep retrofits more accessible. It’s a key step toward achieving the EU’s ambitious Green Deal, Renovation Wave, and Fit-for-55 climate targets.
Building Sustainable, Scalable Retrofit Models
One of the project’s defining strengths lies in its innovative and scalable approach. AREC Reno focuses on developing new models that can be replicated across regions, enabling collective retrofitting at neighbourhood or district level. These models will integrate:
One-Stop Shop frameworks to streamline retrofit delivery
Green financing tools and loan schemes to make projects affordable
Energy performance contracting and community-based investment approaches
KORE Retrofit: Ireland’s Contribution
As part of the consortium, KORE Retrofit represents Ireland’s expertise in technical retrofit delivery. Our role includes providing practical insights and on-the-ground knowledge to ensure the solutions developed are not only innovative but also realistic, effective, and ready to scale in the Irish market.
Our involvement underscores KORE’s commitment to leading sustainable retrofit innovation both in Ireland and across Europe, aligning with our mission to create comfortable, energy-efficient, and future-proofed homes.
Creating Real Impact
AREC Reno’s outcomes will go beyond research they’ll deliver tangible benefits for people and communities by:
Supporting energy-poor households and reducing energy costs
Enhancing indoor comfort and health
Demonstrating how regional innovation ecosystems can drive long-term sustainability
Looking Ahead
For KORE Retrofit, participation in AREC Reno reinforces our position as a trusted partner in Europe’s transition to climate neutrality by 2050. It also opens opportunities to share Ireland’s retrofit expertise, learn from other EU partners, and continue advancing our mission to deliver high-performance, sustainable energy solutions for every home.
